Beginner Sewing Lessons
For creative enthusiasts ages 9 and up.
If you’re nine years old (or older) you can make fun crafts and learn how to use your sewing machine at the same time with Aunt Monica.
We’ll work at your pace and skill level to create items you can use to decorate your room or even give as gifts.
In these lessons, you will learn the basics of sewing with your machine. Each class will build your sewing skills and confidence. You will gain confidence as a sewist making samples and craft projects. Each project will help you develop a new skill and practice the ones you already built.
Skill Building
In your personal sewing lessons, you will:
-
Learn how to thread and take care of your sewing machine.
-
Learn how to sew accurate seams.
-
Learn the importance of ironing (everyone love to iron, right?)
-
Learn how to cut and mark fabric.
-
Work on projects from start to completion.

Do I have to bring my own sewing machine?
If you have a portable sewing machine we recommend you bring and use it.
Part of being a great sewist is “making friends” with your machine. Each one has its own little quirks and settings and it’s important to become comfortable with them.
If you don't have a sewing machine, you're welcome to use one of ours for these lessons.
What do I need to bring to the lessons?
Besides your sewing machine, you need to bring:
-
One 1 or 2 inch binder
-
Pen
-
Pencil
-
Highlighter
-
5-10 blank sheets of copy paper or looseleaf
-
Project supplies are included in these lessons.
You will be able to borrow our tools for your lessons. However, if you have your own tools, please bring them. Everyone is more comfortable using their own stuff.

What kind of things will be made?
In your beginner sewing lessons, we will help you make a variety of items to build your skills. The projects chosen will depend upon your previous sewing experience, interest and seasons. The projects are craft-based (as opposed to garment sewing) and may include bean-bags, scrunchies, draw-string bags, and pencil cases.
How many students are in the class?
One! These are private lessons and you are the only student. This allows us to work slower or faster depending on previous skills and interests.
We accept students 9 years old and older. Students need to be able to work independently as the instructor may not be with them every moment of the class.
